During this project we got to work with a predetermined theme. Working towards a predetermined theme also prepares us as students for what it's like to get out into the industry where we (most likely) will not work on our own game ideas directly without an already set or even started design. In the end, I personally thought it was instructive to work with a set design because it helped you to realize what gets you interested and what you think is fun about game development. In other words, I would have taken any design, style or theme because it's not about what the idea is, but rather what you do with the idea. Our theme was Tibet and then we reflected on what make this theme unique and fun and how we in Level-Design can create the feeling of a place and culture, as well as getting a lot of level design elements into the levels.
What I take with me as a lesson from this project is, firstly, what it is like to use agile workflow in Level Design. We in Level Design worked towards having 3 levels that were coherent, told a story and had good flow. As we have different strengths in Level Design, we work best without ownership of individual levels and it made our levels the best they could be. It also made sure that everyone always had something to do and no level got pushed back or forgotten.
